A legendary Japanese acid-folk masterpiece, finally on 12-inch vinyl.
Originally released in 1999, Guitar by Daisuke Tobari (戸張大輔) has continued to attract deep admiration from listeners around the world for over two decades. Known for its dreamlike, unclassifiable sound, the album has become one of the most celebrated cult works in Japanese underground folk.
This special limited-edition pressing brings the iconic album to 12" vinyl for the first time, and includes an exclusive 7-inch record featuring a newly recorded track from 2019 plus a rare live recording from 2009.
🌿 About the Album — A Cult Classic Reborn
In the mid-1990s, Tobari first gained attention when his cassette work Fantasy was selected as one of the 1995 Best Albums in REMIX Magazine by EYE (Boredoms).
In 1999, he released Guitar—a 22-track CD combining early cassette recordings with new material. Without major promotion, the album spread purely by word of mouth, earning him the reputation of “a man chosen by sound and music.”
Tobari’s recordings also traveled internationally: members of Carolina Rainbow, after visiting Japan in 1994, brought his tapes back to the U.S., leading to a worldwide release in 2000 (To the Edge of Dream). His influence has quietly resonated in global psych-folk and experimental communities ever since.
