Three years after her previous release “0” (2013), Ichiko Aoba returns with her fifth original album, Mahoroboshiya — meaning “a star where paradise exists.” The album features 11 tracks.
Over the past few years, Aoba has continued to captivate audiences across Japan with her live performances, collaborations with various artists, and appearances in stage productions such as “mum & gypsy.” Her earlier works have maintained steady long-term sales, testifying to her enduring appeal.
Following collaborations with Ryuichi Sakamoto, Haruomi Hosono, Keigo Oyamada, and U-zhaan on the session album “Radio / Ichiko Aoba and the Fairies,” and even being quoted by author Banana Yoshimoto in the opening of her novel “Birds,” Aoba has enchanted countless musicians, artists, and listeners alike. This much-anticipated album marks her long-awaited return with new original material.
Ichiko Aoba’s comment:
“It’s been three years since my last album.
Many things have changed, yet some parts have remained the same.
Things drift farther away, then come closer again—but never truly separate.
I made Mahoroboshiya so that all these things in this world, in their own way, could coexist gently and harmoniously together.”
