Description
“Ristorante Mixtape” can be considered the very root of Nujabes’ artistry.
At the time, the music scene was transitioning to CDs as the standard format for mix projects. However, since the tracks he played were sourced from analog records, Nujabes deliberately avoided the CD format — which converts sound into digital signals of 0s and 1s — and instead chose to use cassette tapes, a medium that preserves analog signals as they are.
Amid an era overflowing with “a wide variety of genres,” he asserted his own philosophy and aesthetic with clarity, while also reflecting on the natural sense of what he and his peers had come to regard as “good” within the environment that had nurtured them. He simply selected the music he truly loved.
This firm philosophy became the foundation of Hydeout Productions, giving birth to numerous works. Through his mixtapes, Nujabes unearthed and introduced countless artists and great tracks to the world.
